St. James’ Episcopal Church

St. James is “the little blue church on the hill” in Cedartown with a long, impressive history.

The first service held at St. James was in April of 1884. The church’s Carpenter’s Gothic building looks as if it popped off a greeting card, looking much as it did in the late 1800s. Stained-glass windows featuring bright cobalt blues and rich verdant greens bear the names of influential earlier members.

One prominent parishioner was Sterling Holloway, the voice for the Disney character Winnie-the-Pooh. Members’ involvement with the community includes support of Samaritan House, which provides a food pantry serving those in need, and a community lunch for the local Goodyear Community Center.
